Journalists
have always been held in high esteem due to their dedication to bringing out
the ills of society and making people aware of whatever is bad. But as nothing
is constant in the world, the noble profession of journalism has also been
blemished from time to time by unethical journalists. Natural News reports that
there are several reporters who have resorted to unethical means in order to
gain access to news and facts which would otherwise go unheeded. It is reported
that even Piers Morgan who is considered as a stalwart in “journo” has been
resorting to phone hacking.
Morgan
was the editor of the British newspaper Daily
Mirror from 1995 to 2004. The newspaper is alleged to have hacked the
phones of former coach of English football team Sven Goran Eriksson, Abbie
Gibson, former nanny for the family of David Beckham, former English football
player Garry Flitcroft and actress Shobna Gulati during Morgan’s tenure as the
editor. So, the role of Morgan is not beyond questioning, though substantial
evidence of his involvement is yet to be found. Morgan was fired from Daily Mirror in 2004 after he
published a fake photo of English soldiers inflicting violence on an Iraqi
prisoner.
Natural
News reports that unethical
journalism has become quite common nowadays. Decade old News of the World newspaper was shut down after a similar complaint
was launched against the newspaper which was a part of the News Corporation led
by media baron Rupert Murdoch. It is quite striking that Piers Morgan also
acted as its editor from 1995 to 1996. So, it will not be an exaggeration to
say that Morgan has an uncanny relation
to media frauds. It is now to be seen whether CNN allows him to
continue his show on the channel or take some strict measures against him.
